Not a Car Guy, Your Car Guy

Independent, bilingual advice for people buying a car. I spent about four years selling cars at a dealership. Now I work only for you: you pay me, not a dealership, and every decision stays yours.

About Joe Bryan

In September 2022, I started selling cars, mostly by fate. I never wanted to be a car salesman because they seemed sleazy, so I decided to do it differently. I built my business by doing what I could to make sure my customers were taken care of.

Early on, something about the way the business is set up bothered me, and I said so to a manager. He told me I shouldn't feel bad for being better at my job than customers are at theirs: my job was to sell, and theirs was to protect their family's interests. I understood the logic. I just never stopped feeling the imbalance.

The people who showed me what to do about it kept walking in. A young woman buying a car on her own for the first time, afraid to walk into a dealership alone. A single mom looking for a family SUV we didn't have in her price range, who told me she wished I could go with her to buy it. And older buyers who never think to check prices online before they walk in.

After about four years as a top-producing sales consultant, I know how a deal comes together from the inside: how the numbers are built, where there's room to talk, and what buyers can't see from their side of the desk. I left dealership work so I could work for the buyer instead. Today I'm fully independent. You pay me, not a dealership, which means my only job is to look out for you.

My mission: to ensure customers get a fair deal in every aspect of the car-buying process.

That mom's words are why I'll come to the dealership with you. I'm bilingual, so you and your family can talk it through in English or Spanish. I keep things honest and plain. If a deal looks fine, I'll tell you. If it doesn't, I'll show you why.

How it works

  1. Choose a service and book

Pick the option that fits where you are. Book a time and pay through Square.

  2. Tell me what you're looking for

We start with your budget, what you need, and any offers you already have.

  3. We work through it together

I advise you, and you decide. Nothing moves forward without your say.

Common questions

Are you a car dealer?

No. JoeBryCarGuy is an advisory and coaching service. I don't sell or buy vehicles, and I'm not a dealership.

Do you buy the car or sign for me?

No. You make every decision, and you sign your own paperwork. I advise you throughout, including on the By Your Side service, where I coach you in the room while you negotiate.

Does a dealership pay you?

No. You pay me directly, and I don't accept payment of any kind from dealerships, including referral fees. That's what lets me give you an honest opinion even when it isn't what a dealership would want to hear.

How is this different from an online car-buying service?

Online tools are useful for research and price data. What I add is a person: someone local who talks it through with you, checks the numbers with you, and, if you choose, comes with you. You stay in charge and deal with the dealership yourself. I work in English and Spanish.

Can you guarantee I'll save money?

No, and be careful with anyone who does. I can help you understand what's reasonable and avoid common mistakes, but the price you get depends on the vehicle, the market, and your situation.

Where do you work?

In person in the San Antonio area. The Strategy Call and the Deal Check are done remotely, by phone or video.

What if I need to reschedule or cancel?

Use the link in your booking confirmation email to reschedule or cancel, or send me a message.
